Thistles are flowers with erect, sometimes branched stems they are characterized by their prickly leaves, which are typically deeply lobed and may have spines along the edges. The stems and leaves often have a rough, hairy texture and globe-shaped spiked flowerheads at the end of their stems. They come in blue, green and sometimes white in color.
